The WP Engine WordPress hosting company is switching away from MaxCDN in favor of Cloudflare’s features to improve the speed, scalability, and security of the website.
This advanced network delivers increased security and performance out of the box: Layer 3 & 4 DDoS protection, Cloudflare’s powerful CDN, and Cloudflare Polish lossless image compression.
The HTTP/3 will be provided at no charge to all WP Engine customers in partnership with Cloudflare, accelerating the HTTP requests by using QUIC, which provides encryption and performance improvements compared to TCP and TLS.
It is unclear if the WP Engine’s Advanced Network would also include the Cloudflare’s Argo Tunneling feature.
Argo is a service that uses optimized routes across the Cloudflare network to deliver responses to users more quickly, reliably, and securely. Enabling Argo activates Argo Smart Routing and Tiered Caching, reducing Internet latency on average by more than 30% and connection errors by 27%. Argo Tunnel also protects servers from IP address exposure and attack.
Advanced Network is available to most of the WP Engine customers starting April 2021.
