What is HTTP/3?
HTTP3 is the upcoming 3rd major version of the HTTP used to exchange data between client and server.
HTTP/3 is the newest version of the HTTP protocol that enables faster, more reliable, and more secure connections to web endpoints like websites and APIs.
In particular, HTTP/3 allows data transfers of multiple files at the same time (which your browser does whenever it’s loading a website) on lossy connections and connection startup are improved.
Currently, 7.32% of desktop web browsers support HTTP/3, while no mobile browsers support it.
According to W3Techs, 9.3% of the top 10 million websites support HTTP/3.
As of March 2021, the HTTP/3 protocol is an Internet Draft and has multiple implementations. Experimental versions of Safari, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome support HTTP/3 behind a feature flag.
